Air

By Staff -- Logistics Management, 3/1/2000

The Bureau of Labor Statistics no longer provides some reports that we have been using for this section. As a result, we now are reporting average producer prices for scheduled aircargo transportation of property as well as domestic and international air-courier rates. In January 2000, rates for shipping cargo via scheduled flights fell 0.1% from December 1999 but rose 0.4% compared with January 1999. Meanwhile, rates for domestic air-courier services rose 7.2% compared with rates a year earlier. Airlines say their profits have been hammered by higher fuel costs as U.S. jet fuel prices rose 105.6% between January 1999 and January 2000.
