Recent major contract announcements include:

Pepsi-Cola General Bottlers

Pepsi-Cola General Bottlers has expanded its use of the TruckStops Routing and Scheduling System to nine of its 69 Midwest distribution centers. PCGB has used a TruckStops system since 1997 and based on that experience, decided to implement it in additional distribution locations across the Midwest.

 

The Lite-On Group,

The Lite-On Group, a Taiwanese-based corporation, has appointed GeoLogistics Corp. as its global freight forwarder and logistics provider. The appointment extends the current service GeoLogistics provides and includes all of the Lite-On Group's subsidiaries.

 

Con-Way Integrated Services

Con-Way Integrated Services announced a multiyear logistics contract with Safelite Glass Corp. CIS will handle all Safelite's less-than-truckload and local transportation management needs from CIS's Supply Chain Management Center in Chicago.

 

IFCO Systems N.V.'s

IFCO Systems N.V.'s subsidiary, PalEx Inc., has entered into a multiyear agreement with Kmart Corp. for the provision of pallet management and logistical services for its North American operations. IFCO/PalEx will also provide retrieval services and sort and eliminate old pallets from the pool.

 

Integrated Business Systems & Services Inc.

Integrated Business Systems & Services Inc. has announced that Berkline, a manufacturer of reclining furniture and a division of LifeStyle Furnishings International Ltd., is going to use Synapse Manufacturing software to automate shop floor control and warehouse management at all of its locations.

 

USF Processors,

USF Processors, a logistics subsidiary of USFreightways Corp., has signed an agreement with Jitney-Jungle, a supermarket chain in the Southeast, to provide full reverse logistics services. USF Processors will process unsold and returned

merchandise.

 

National Steel and Shipbuilding Co.,

National Steel and Shipbuilding Co., a General Dynamics company, has been awarded a $230 million contract to build its eighth large medium-speed roll-on/roll-off ship under the U.S. Navy's Strategic Sealift Program. Construction will commence this summer, with delivery of the ship scheduled in mid-2002.

 

Emerson & Cuming,

Emerson & Cuming, headquartered in Billerica, Mass., has announced that it has signed an agreement with Krayden Inc. to distribute its adhesives, encapsulants, and coatings. Emerson & Cuming is one of six companies that make up the Electronic & Engineering Materials division of National Starch and Chemical Co.

 

Checkpoint Systems Inc.

Checkpoint Systems Inc. has signed a contract to install radio-frequency electronic article-surveillance systems for Casino Group, a French hypermarket, supermarket, and convenience store chain.

 

Gaylord Container Corp.,

Gaylord Container Corp., a manufacturer and distributor of brown-paper packaging products, has selected KNGT Logistics, a nonasset-based supply chain company, to provide logistics services for its Bogalusa, La., mill.

 

Circle International

Circle International has been awarded separate multiyear contracts by General Motors Corp. and Delphi Automotive Systems Corp. to provide customs brokerage for all offshore import shipments into the United States. Circle becomes the sole provider managing customs clearance for all inbound cargoes arriving via air and ocean transportation into multiple ports of entry throughout the United States.
