Con-Way expands Canadian operations
By Staff -- Logistics Management, 5/1/2000
The Canadian subsidiary of Con-Way Central Express has expanded its services into five additional provinces. Con-Way Canada Express, which had provided less-than-truckload services in Ontario, Quebec, and Manitoba, recently opened service locations in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, Saskatchewan, and Alberta. The company had operated in Canada as Con-Way Central Express until Con-Way Canada was established as a separate operation in January.
The carrier, based in Mississauga, Ont., announced the expansion as part of its overall plan to build a more comprehensive service network throughout Canada. Con-Way Canada says it will now cover markets reaching 86 percent of Canada's population.
The expansion in Canada is the largest geographic move undertaken by Con-Way Transportation Services, a group of carriers established in 1983. Con-Way Transportation Services is a subsidiary of CNF Inc., a $5.6 billion management company with businesses in regional trucking, air freight, ocean freight, customs brokerage, global logistics management, and trailer manufacturing.
