PNV Inc. has joined forces with the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance to offer online safety information and programs to professional truck drivers. Together, the two will provide safety information to drivers 24 hours a day, seven days a week through voice messaging and e-mail, and via PNV's Web portal, www.pnv.com.

Logistics.com and Southeastern Freight Lines Inc. have collaborated to develop OptiSchedule, a strategic decision-support system, to enhance linehaul driver utilization, improve service, increase driver satisfaction, and reduce overall linehaul costs.

American Freightways Corp. has added two new features to its AFTracker system: a Purchase-Order Number inquiry capability and a Bill-of-Lading Number inquiry capability. AFTracker is American Freightways' shipment inquiry tool developed to allow customers to track their shipments via e-mail.

Consolidated Freightways has partnered with the U.S. Customs Service to automate in-bond customs clearances. The system incorporates electronic data exchange into processes associated with the domestic movement and clearance of in-bond cargo.

Con-Way Southern Express will construct a new freight assembly center in Chester, Va. This new center will replace the carrier's existing facility in Richmond. Construction is scheduled to be completed this November.

Penske Truck Leasing has completed the acquisition of the assets of McDevitt Transportation Services Inc., a truck rental and leasing company based in Manchester, N.H. Penske will operate directly from the existing McDevitt leasing facility.

Saddle Creek Corp. has acquired the assets of Copak Corp. in Charlotte, N.C. The company will operate as a fully owned subsidiary with the name Saddle Creek Copak Services Inc.

The Timken Co. has launched a new Web site, www.timken.com, to feature its rail products and services. The site gives customers the ability to submit service, engineering. and technical support questions to the company's rail experts.

Maersk-Rail Van has started construction on its new headquarters in Dublin, Ohio. The three-story building, which will be built on 13 acres of land, is expected to be completed by March 2001.

Overnite Transportation Co. is offering a new "It's on-time or it's free" guarantee. Overnite Advantage Guaranteed is part of a new grouping of products and services under the Overnite Advantage umbrella that includes full-state coverage in 27 states, three- and four-day transcontinental service, and more than 15,000 one-and two-day lanes.

Viking Freight Inc., a subsidiary of FedEx, has opened its new 39-acre service center in Phoenix. The new location replaces the company's former 14-acre Phoenix facility.

Roadway Express Inc. is enhancing its interactive Web site to offer rate quotes using customer-specific pricing information. The secure, password-protected area of the site provides customers with real-time shipping information and services.

Expedited, WorldPoint Logistics' national time-definite transportation company, has expanded its network by opening a new office in Miami and expanding overnight service to and from Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa, and Miami/Fort Lauderdale.

ABF Freight System Inc. has announced a one-time credit of $25 to customers who try its enhanced suite of Internet-based transportation tools, eCenter, before June 30. The Bill of Lading, Pickup Request, and Rate Quotation tools have been upgraded to allow the customer additional interactivity and data storage capabilities.

HK Systems Inc. and AGV Products Inc. have combined product lines to provide integrated materials-handling solutions. The marketing alliance includes a sharing of each other's products and services.

Fritz Cos. has announced the launch of its Global Response Tracking System. The system has sophisticated monitoring capabilities and routing intelligence that will allow Fritz offices to track and monitor customer requirements worldwide.

Forward Air has introduced its "Tidewater Shuttle" service, which offers overnight ground transportation for air freight between the Richmond, Va., Norfolk, Va., and Washington Dulles airports.

Exel has launched "Exel Direct," a business-to-consumer fulfillment and delivery service. Formerly known as Merchants Home Delivery Service, the division will support online sellers through 240 operating sites in the United States and Canada.
