Ocean Shipping-Evergreen will add a new all-water weekly service between Hong Kong; Kaohsiung, Taiwan; and three U.S. East Coast ports via Panama next month. CP Ships has acquired Christensen Canadian African Line (CCAL), which offers a 21-day service between Montreal and South Africa. Lykes Lines has increased the frequency of its Gulf-Caribbean service from every 10 days to weekly. Seaboard Marine Ltd. and Kent Line have launched a joint weekly, fixed-day service between St. John, N.B.; Philadelphia; Miami; and six Caribbean ports. CaroTrans International is now offering consolidations to a full range of North African and Mediterranean ports through a partnership with LoTrans Logística y Transporte of Barcelona, Spain. Direct Container Line has introduced fast, new consolidation services from Boston to London and Hong Kong, and from Chicago to Dublin, Ireland.

Freight Forwarders-Schenker AG says it has redesigned its LCL handling system to create denser freight flows and better container utilization, resulting in lower costs for customers. UTi (Union-Transport) has opened a specialized duty-drawback branch in Chicago. YCS International has changed its name to Yellow Global Inc. to emphasize its relationship with its parent company, Yellow Corp. International Freight Services has opened its first overseas office, in Taipei, Taiwan.

Air Freight-Air France Cargo has opened a $75 million, 1 million-plus square-foot cargo hub in Paris. Innovations such as electronic tracking tags on packages and an automated pallet-mover system have reduced transshipment times to less than six hours. Pathfinder Air Resources now offers twice-weekly service from Boston to Shannon, Ireland; Birmingham, England; and Western Europe via Ostende, Belgium. Amerijet International has launched daily service from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., to 13 destinations in the Caribbean and Mexico.

Logistics Services-Ryder System Inc. has combined its two European business units, Ryder Integrated Logistics and Ryder Transportation Services, into a single, streamlined supply chain management company. Emery Worldwide has opened two "SuperCentres" in Amsterdam and Eindhoven in the Netherlands. The ISO 9002-certified facilities combine logistics and transportation services under one roof. Maersk Logistics has opened its 13th office in China, in Ningbo. MSAS Global Logistics has created a Global Customer Development and Supply Chain Solutions Group to serve multinational customers. Aim Caribbean Express has reorganized its contract logistics services into a separate corporation, Aim Worldwide Logistics.
