Mack Upgrades 2001CH Tractor for Comfort
Mack Trucks Inc. has improved the interior of its CH tractor for the 2001 model year with a new dashboard, the new Mack Performance Seat, and additional driver-friendly features.
The all-new dashboard is fully electronic with back lighting for better visibility. The controls that drivers use most often are within easy reach and have been redesigned for readability.
Also included on the dashboard is the Mack V.I.P. (Vehicle Information Profiler), which lets operators know how the engine is running. The V.I.P. works in conjunction with the V-MAC III electronic vehicle-management and control system and a standard DataMax onboard data logger/trip recorder. Fleet managers can gain access to information with InfoMax, Mack's Windows software, to reprogram, analyze, and report engine information. InfoMax also allows users to view or print information, evaluate driver performance, schedule routine maintenance, and reconstruct an accident.
Mack's Performance Seat includes an extra-wide cushion and seat back with adjustable support mechanisms in the kidney, lumbar, and thigh areas to create a custom fit. The 2001 CH vehicles also have a new noise- and vibration-prevention package that cuts interior decibels to automobile-like levels.
Mack has improved its sleeper trucks, too. Revamped heating and air-conditioning systems make for a more comfortable environment. Sleeper access has been enhanced through an enlarged opening that stretches the entire width of the cab, and both the driver and passenger seats swivel a full 180 degrees. Also available are various TV/VCR and sound-system packages.
Navistar 9200i Improves Visibility
The International 9200i from Navistar International Transportation Corp. is most commonly used as a long regional hauler, bulk tanker, or heavy hauler.
The all-aluminum cab allows for a longer life, less weight, and bigger payloads than non-aluminum models. Engines are available in Caterpillar, Cummins, or Detroit Diesel models that range from 280 to 470 horsepower.
All windows have been enlarged to provide a fuller view of the surroundings. The wraparound windshield provides a wide field of vision and plenty of lateral visibility as well, the manufacturer says.
The Pro Sleeper cab offers many options including separate heater, radio, and A/C controls; built-in compartments for TV, VCR, and refrigerator; and a pull-out desk. A double-bunk option provides spacious accommodations for two.
Columbia's New Seat Offers Better Support
Freightliner Trucks has introduced its newest Class 8 truck, the Columbia. The aerodynamic cab design improves fuel efficiency, and its aluminum construction meets worldwide crashworthiness standards.
The Columbia is equipped with the EzyRider seat, which is 1.5 inches taller than standard seats for increased head support and 3.0 inches wider at shoulder level for better upper-back support. The lower seat cushion is 1.2 inches wider than usual and also extends out for drivers with longer legs. The Columbia can be specified with components from Eaton and Meritor, and with Detroit Diesel, Caterpillar, and Cummins engines of up to 600 horsepower.
Peterbilt's Long-Nose Cab is Extra-Roomy
Peterbilt's Model 379 Class 8 tractor is a conventional, long-nose cab with a classic exterior design. Inside, there's an extra-roomy cab with a contoured dash that puts every control in line with the driver's eye and within easy reach.
The vehicle can also be equipped with Peterbilt's Unibilt sleeper, UltraCab, or Unibilt Day Cab. The 379's heater/air conditioner system is designed for comfort and ease of maintenance, with optimized air flow, easy access for maintenance and repair, and an optional climate-control system.
The Model 379 offers Caterpillar, Cummins, and Detroit Diesel engines of up to 550 horsepower. The standard aluminum hood is a Peterbilt 379 exclusive design that helps to improve fuel economy with its reduced tare weight. Also standard on the 379 is Peterbilt's anti-lock braking system.
Sterling's Condor IsDesigned for Flexibility
Sterling Truck Corp. has introduced its newest Class 8 truck, the Condor. It is a low-cab-forward truck that has been designed for many industrial jobs. For refuse collection, for example, the Condor can be fitted with roll-off containers, as well as front, rear, and side loaders, both manual and automated. The Condor is also being used for concrete pumpers, home and bulk oil delivery, and public utility service.
The cab is made of lightweight and corrosion-resistant aluminum, and some panels are made of impact-resistant Metton composite material. The Condor also has a 42-degree cab tilt, allowing easy access to its 250- to 350-hp Caterpillar and Cummins engines.
The Condor will be available beginning in the fourth quarter of 2000.
Rugged Traffic Doors Take Abuse
RubbAir Door Division has unveiled the Poly-Kor shock-absorbing traffic door, which features a rubber honeycomb sub-frame, flexible foam insulation, and abrasion-resistant ABS facings.
The door comes complete with tough, 3/4-inch-rise V-cam gravity hinges used with a sealed roller bearing. The doors are ideal for facilities that handle food products: Surface materials meet USDA guidelines and are fully insulated for areas where temperature control is important.
The rugged Poly-Kor traffic door is designed to withstand impact by carts, pallets, hand trucks, and light forklift traffic. Doors are custom built, with openings of up to 10 feet by 10 feet.
A variety of options are also available, including molded spring bumpers from 12 inches to 48 inches in height; impact panels of ABS, vinyl, or stainless steel; windows in nonstandard sizes and configurations; special jamb guards; and cam hardware with extended swing for tight turning traffic flow. It is also available in a variety of colors with the facing's color built in to avoid chipping or peeling.
New Pig's Spill Containment Pallet Improves Safety
The New Pig Corp. has introduced the Two-Drum Heavy-Duty Spill Containment Pallet for safe, easy storage and transfer of 55-gallon plastic drums. The 4-inch- thick grate is able to withstand extreme conditions even at full capacity (4,500 weight capacity UDL). Featuring a low 83/4-inch profile-half the height of most standard two-drum pallets-it is designed to make loading and unloading easier. The innovative design transfers weight to load-bearing channels so that the pallet can be easily moved, even with drums in place. The pallet also offers two-way forklift entry from the front or the back.
The Two-Drum Heavy-Duty Spill Containment Pallet helps customers comply with the 40 CFR 264.175 (1999) federal containment regulations. It also meets the Uniform Fire Code Capacity requirements due to its 66-gallon sump capacity.
The unit is translucent white to allow for visual leak detection inside the sump. In addition, the removable grate has a nonslip surface providing extra traction on grated surfaces. An optional drain plug is available for easy sump draining.
