Software links forwarders with shippers, carriers
By Staff -- Logistics Management, 8/1/2000
A pay-per-transaction policy and an expanded support staff are among the features that OceanWide.com expects will draw customers to ForwarderLogic, its new freight-forwarder operations and documentation-management system. The software, now in its final testing stage, is expected to be available shortly.
ForwarderLogic is an extranet application that is linked to a central database and Web server, which allows several offices to be linked together. This enables forwarders to trade documents with shippers, ocean and air carriers, and truckers 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The software is delivered on an application service provider (ASP) basis so the freight forwarder pays for the customization and deployment and then "rents" the application from OceanWide.com. By "renting" its software, OceanWide remains responsible for maintaining the hardware, software, and database as well as managing all data integration for customers and suppliers.
