UPS Logistics Group opens center at Alliance
By Staff -- Logistics Management, 8/1/2000
The UPS Logistics Group has opened a 320,000-square-foot distribution and technology center at the Alliance industrial airport in Fort Worth, Texas. Alliance is a 9,600-acre aircargo and freight-distribution development that was built 10 years ago by Hillwood, a Texas-based real estate developer.
The main user of the distribution center, which is operated by UPS Worldwide Logistics (WWL), will be WWL's Latin American headquarters. Another UPS Logistics Group company, Worldwide Dedicated Services, and United Parcel Service, WWL's parent company, also will be tenants of the facility.
UPS Worldwide Logistics provides such services at the new facility as transportation management, inventory management, inbound and outbound shipping, fleet management, order fulfillment, diagnostics, quality inspection, and returns management.
UPS Logistics Group intends to purchase 18 acres at Alliance with an option to expand to an additional 80 acres, which may be used to build additional facilities in a "campus" environment for multiple client use.
