GATX Corp. has announced that it intends to sell GATX Terminals Corp., its wholly owned subsidiary specializing in the storage and distribution of bulk petroleum and chemical products. GATX is looking for an owner that is focused specifically on the chemical and petroleum storage and distribution markets. GATX Terminals has 17 wholly owned terminal facilities, ownership of or interest in four refined product pipelines, and 11 joint ventures. GATX Terminals generated $294 million in gross income and $26 million of net income in 1999. The company has approximately 1,000 employees.
TNT, a provider of mail, express, and logistics services, has introduced a new e-fulfillment brand, TNT Loop Demand Chain Management. TNT Loop will enable companies to develop business-to-business services.
Exel has launched a dedicated supply chain
solutions company in Shanghai, China, in association with local operator Chengtong Distribution Group. Exel will provide services to customers in the retail, automotive, chemical, consumer, and electronics industries.
Consolidated Freightways Corp. has acquired privately held FirstAir Inc., a non-asset-based airfreight forwarder. The Minnesota-based company has been named CF AirFreight and is a wholly owned subsidiary of CFC.
ProLogis is developing a new industrial park. The facility, expected to be completed in early 2001, is located in Torrance, Calif. ProLogis Park Torrance will include four industrial facilities totaling more than 1,000,000 square feet.
Langham Transport Services has broken ground on its new corporate headquarters and distribution facility in Indianapolis. The 306,000-square-foot facility will cover 15 acres and feature 12,000 square feet of office space.
The Intermodal Association of North America (IANA), an industry trade association representing the interests of the intermodal freight industry, has redesigned its Web site. Association members now have the option of ordering products and registering for meetings online. The site has also expanded its information regarding association programs and projects, member companies, and industry issues.
CSX Transportation Inc. unveiled the first of its 220 new 60-foot high-cube boxcars specifically designed to meet the needs of the newsprint industry. The smooth-wall interior of the new cars is specially designed to prevent damage to paper products.
The National Transportation Exchange (NTE) has expanded its exchange capabilities to include the trading of temperature-controlled freight. Membership is currently available at no charge to qualified buyers and sellers of ground transportation capacity.
GeoLogistics Corp. has moved its Houston operations into a logistics center that more than triples its warehouse space. The new center consists of a 66,000-square-foot warehouse, a 42,000-square-foot fenced outside storage compound, and 11,000 square feet of office space.
Zebra Technologies Corp., a bar-code systems manufacturer, has opened a new office in Hong Kong. Zebra currently services the Asia Pacific region through offices in Seoul, Singapore, and Tokyo.
