Companies recently honored for operational excellence:
General Motors Corp . has named Averitt Express, a full-service transportation and logistics provider, as 1999 Supplier of the Year. The award is given annually to GM's best global suppliers based on quality, service, technology, and price.
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. has named Richmond, Va.-based Overnite Transportation Co . its LTL Carrier of the Year. Overnite is Union Pacific Corp.'s trucking subsidiary. Wal-Mart also honored FedEx Express and FedEx Ground with Carrier of the Year awards for the second year in a row. FedEx Express won in the express category, and FedEx Ground won in the ground small-package category.
Consolidated Freightways and the Norfolk Southern railroad have been named 2000 Carriers of the Year by the Georgia Freight Bureau. CF won the award for reducing cycle times and eliminating errors by 85 percent. Norfolk Southern was honored for helping Big River Industries open a new and significant market by providing it with a total logistics solution.
Groendyke Transport Inc. is the recipient of the Outstanding Performance Trophy in the National Tank Truck Carriers' 1999 Tank Truck Safety Contest. The trophy, awarded annually by The Heil Co. of Milwaukee, Wis., is presented to the carrier having the best all-around safety program in the for-hire tank truck industry.
Auto Ventshade Co. has announced its 1999 Carriers of the Year. The LTL Carrier of the Year is USF Holland. Werner Enterprises was named the Truckload Carrier of the Year, and Triple Crown Services was named Intermodal Carrier of the Year. Roadrunner Freight Systems and Schenker International tied for the International Carrier of the Year. FedEx Ground was named Package Carrier of the Year.
