UltraLite2 Takes on Heavy Loads
Holland Binkley has introduced the new UltraLite2 mechanical slider-suspension system, which is the lightest mechanical suspension system available, according to the manufacturer.
UltraLite2 is designed to fit upper rails with 6-inch or 4-inch lock-pin spacing. The UltraLite2 is 70 pounds lighter than standard mechanical suspensions and 229 to 505 pounds lighter than air-suspension systems. Features include an 80,000-pound yield sub-frame, cast torque arms with 20-percent thicker bushings, and heavy-duty hold-down clamps.
Options include an "Air Release"-equipped version for automatic pin retraction and the UltraLite2 PLUS model, which includes a one-piece axle beam with XEM brakes. A five-year warranty covers all parts and labor with unlimited miles.
"Leviathan" Designed to HaulExtra-Heavy Loads
Benson International has introduced the Leviathan platform trailer, which is designed to haul loads weighing in excess of 100,000 pounds. The 48-foot-long, 96-inch-wide trailer's eight-axle configuration allows shippers to load maximum weights in accordance with state regulations.
The Leviathan features 24-inch-deep I-beam main beams and 6-inch-deep cross members on 12-inch centers, along with a full-length, one-inch-deep coil well to facilitate safer load securement. The two front and two rear axles are attached to the liftable Hendrickson-Turner air-ride suspensions to enhance loaded trailer handling during tight cornering or when running empty. The center four axles are mounted on Reyco 21-B spring suspensions. The liftable axles are on 49-inch spacings and the center axles are on 44-inch spacings.
Benson International specializes in customized lowboys, moving-floor trailers, steel drop-deck performance trailers, all-aluminum trailers, and a variety of specialized bulk commodity trailers.
"Beavertails" Carry Hard-to-Load Machinery
Dynaweld Inc. has introduced new features to its hydraulic "beavertail" semi trailers. The 25-ton Model 70XHBT can raise hard-to-load machinery to deck level on the beavertail, with more than 20,000 pounds of lift capacity. Disabled equipment can be winched all the way onto the deck. The Dynaweld trailer offers added stability with lightweight T-1 steel main-beam construction, preventing frame deflection from concentrated heavy loads. A deck-to-deck 30-degree rise allows upper deck loading without expensive main deck hydraulics. Outboard-mounted stake pockets and rub rails are part of a versatile continuous tie-down system.
All semis are Ziebart undercoated and finished with paintable steel. All have full 2-inch, solid-oak decking; waterproof modular wiring; and a lockable toolbox. Additional options are the 20,000-pound hydraulic winch with remote control and dual plug-ins, and the Forklift Package featuring strong, lightweight apitong wood decking and closer cross-member spacing.
Another new model is Dynaweld's 70XMG semi trailer for oversized loads of heavy equipment, machinery, or bulk commodities. Features include a four main-beam frame, I-beams constructed with strength/weight efficient T-1 steel, six I-beam cross members, and strong but lightweight apitong flooring on all decks.
Standard to all models are frame-mounted air-ride, 22,500-pound axles; 10 bolt hub-piloted disc wheels; anti-lock brakes; waterproof modular wiring; and a tailboard that is hinged for a removable flip third axle.
Options include removable outriggers, chain tie-down bars, aluminum wheels, and the flip third axle installed. The trailer is Ziebart rustproofed and all paintable steel is shot blasted, alkaline cleaned, and double coated with name brand enamels.
Lightweight Aluminum Trailer Saves FuelMoney
The FleetHAWK series of trailers by Ravens Inc. combine advanced manufacturing techniques and production efficiencies generated by a standard features package to deliver an affordable aluminum trailer.
The FleetHAWK provides the fuel savings and ability to increase payloads offered by lightweight aluminum construction together with heavy-duty, long-life performance, says the manufacturer.
Among the trailers' features are tubular, 5-inch axles with 23,000-pound capacity; quick-change, non-asbestos-lined brakes; 11/2-inch deep, multi-hollow core aluminum flooring; two-speed, handle-mounted landing gear with sand shoes; and a Hendrickson air-ride Intraax 230 suspension system for superior shock absorption and driver control.
Online Truck, Trailer Auction Debuts
Hookup.com, which provides electronic commerce services for the trucking industry, and Taylor & Martin, a truck remarketer, have teamed up to launch an Internet-based, online truck and equipment auction.
Auction sessions, which take place in a real-time environment, are available Tuesday through Thursday each week. The listing fee is $50 per truck, which is good for two consecutive auctions. After that, a relisting fee is charged. Only pre-qualified buyers may place bids.
Hookup.com specializes in the sale of Class 6, 7, and 8 trucks; trailers; and other types of heavy equipment. Buyers are able to examine a vehicle's condition by viewing a list of features including information about each seller as well as details about the vehicle's make and model, mileage, engine specifications, suspension, cab, and sleeper accommodations. Potential buyers can ask sellers questions online.
Features for buyers include a 10-day inspection period after auction closing (sales are contingent upon the accuracy of the vehicle's description), availability of equipment appraisals and inspections, and availability of "desktop" appraisals in one day. Applications are available at www.hookup.com.
Modular Label Printer Designed for Versatility
Weber Marking Systems announces the Legitronic 33 Series thermal/thermal-transfer label printer, which incorporates a unique modular design for a wide range of labeling applications.
The 33 Series model accepts roll and fan-fold pressure-sensitive labels and tags up to 4.65 inches wide, printing in-spec bar codes, text, graphics, and logos with 203-dpi resolution. Its high-speed, 32-bit processor with 8-MB addressable RAM ensures performance at speeds of up to 6.0 inches per second.
The printer can be upgraded or reconfigured with optional accessories, most of which can be installed on-site with minimal downtime.
Disposable Drum Liners Do Double Duty
Target Industries now offers polyethylene, linear low-density co-polymer blend, and high-density drum liners. The rugged liners create an impermeable barrier that seals out moisture, ambient air, and dust to prolong product efficacy and cleanliness.
The liners can be custom formulated to create appropriate compatibility with the packaged product. The liners also eliminate expensive and wasteful drum disposal with a low-cost cleanup that adds life to the paperboard or steel drum: Users can simply remove, dispose, and replace them with a fresh liner. Double-bottom seals also prevent leakage.
Dimensioning Equipment Measures All Shapes
Mettler-Toledo Inc. has introduced the Cargoscan 5200 (CS5200) dimensioning equipment. The device uses Parallel Infrared Laser Rangefinder (PILAR) technology.
The PILAR technology prevents shadowing and blind spots, which allows it to measure all shapes of objects. As an object moves down a conveyor belt, the PILAR technology is able to "see" all sides of the object regardless of the shape and determines the smallest container into which the object will fit.
The CS5200's basic configuration has the ability to measure both single and multiple objects on the conveyor belt. With optional software, it is also able to dimension multiple, touching objects.
The CS5200 can measure objects moving at rates of up to 600 feet per minute. The enhanced graphical user interface screen shows which packages are touching, summarizes throughput and error data, and indicates when the dimensioning process has been completed.
Driver Training Videos Cover Extreme Situations
J. J. Keller & Associates now offers Extreme 7-Minute Solutions, a driver training video series that focuses on safe responses to extreme driving conditions. The series consists of three seven-minute videos: Wind! explains how to drive safely in high wind situations; Rain! reviews problems rain can cause, such as low visibility and hydroplaning; and Rollover! discusses the causes and prevention of rollovers.
All three of the videos use a combination of eye-catching graphics and compelling, real-life video footage. Each video is accompanied by an instructor's bulletin featuring training tips and 10 driver skill cards that reinforce key points. The series is available for $169. The videos are also sold separately for $69 each.
