Interpool to buy Transamerica unit

Interpool Inc., a lessor of cargo containers and chassis, has announced it will buy the North American intermodal division of Transamerica Leasing, a subsidiary of Transamerica Finance Corp., for $675 million in cash. The deal is subject to receipt of the financing and a federally mandated waiting period while antitrust-enforcement agencies scrutinize the proposal. It is expected to close this year.

Transamerica Leasing, based in Purchase, N.Y., is a domestic lessor of intermodal equipment.
