More truckers raise rates

Three LTL motor carriers have announced general rate hikes effective this month. Daylight Transport of Los Angeles is increasing its general rates by 5.8 percent for non-contract shipments in the United States; American Freightways of Harrison, Ark., is upping rates 5.5 percent; and Motor Cargo of Salt Lake City, Utah, is increasing rates 5.8 percent.
In addition, the Southern Motor Carrier Rate Conference is increasing the rates charged by member carriers by 4.79 percent, along with the surcharge it imposed earlier for fuel costing more than $1.10 per gallon.
Last month, several other LTL carriers announced rate hikes. They included Con-Way Transportation, 5.9 percent; Consolidated Freightways, 5.85 percent; Overnite Transportation, 5.5 percent; and Yellow Freight System, 5.9 percent.
