US & T offers holiday 'fast-ship' program

By Staff -- Logistics Management, 11/1/2000

United Shipping & Technology subsidiary Velocity Express Inc., a Houston-based shipping company serving e-commerce customers, is offering retailers and other businesses a nationwide same-day transport program for pickup, shipping, and delivery of holiday-season rush and emergency shipments.

The new service is designed to help ease the backlog that occurred last year when shipping channels reached capacity two to three weeks before Christmas, says Peter Lytle, CEO of Minneapolis-based US & T, the largest national same-day delivery company. "That gridlock was created when an additional 650,000 packages per day flooded the shipping systems, most of them generated by e-commerce and Internet sales," he says. That situation is expected to get worse, he adds.

The program is subject to certain package size and weight limitations. It also restricts shipment of controlled materials and shipments to certain destinations. For more information, go to the company's Web site, www.velocityexp.com.
