Recent major contract announcements include:

  • Haworth Inc., a designer and manufacturer of office furniture, has selected Logistics Science Associates, a third-party small-package and LTL logistics firm, to provide custom transportation services for its global purchasing organization throughout North America for a 12-month period.

  • Cardinal Logistics Management has announced that it has expanded its contract with The Home Depot. Cardinal will provide home- and job-site delivery fulfillment service, with drivers and managers based in each store. When the service is fully implemented, Cardinal will serve 405 Home Depot stores in the United States.

  • The Body Shop, a retailer of hair- and skin-care products, has teamed up with Danzas AEI to build a supply chain management program between the United States and the United Kingdom. Danzas will provide multimodal transportation, customs brokerage, and vendor consolidation services.

  • Webmodal Inc., an e-commerce company specializing in domestic intermodal transportation, has announced the successful implementation of its "Point-Click-Ship" intermodal transportation service for Igloo Products Corp., an ice-chest manufacturer.

  • Global management consulting firm A.T. Kearney and Arzoon, a provider of Internet-based services for managing transportation work processes, have formed a strategic alliance. A.T. Kearney's clients will now have access to Arzoon's Transportation Management Trading Network, which provides online services for managing the full cycle of work processes across all modes, information-technology systems, and enterprises. In turn, Arzoon and its clients will have access to selected A.T. Kearney consulting services, including supply chain rationalization, transportation management, and carrier selection.

  • Sun Microsystems Inc. has selected LeanLogistics, an Internet-based transportation exchange, as a member of the Sun Startup Accelerator Program. This program singles out industry-best startup companies and provides them with hardware, software, and Internet access at special pricing. This allows startup companies to more quickly bring their products and solutions to market while focusing on customer needs.

  • Optimum Logistics, an Internet-based open logistics system for bulk materials, has announced an alliance with Bulknet.com, an online bulk distribution and logistics platform for North American trucking. The agreement will expand Optimum's e-logistics offering, TransLink, to include loading, transportation, and delivery of liquid and dry bulk commodities by truck. TransLink users will be able to arrange, track, and monitor intermodal transportation throughout North America.

  • Manufacturer of home, office, and school products Boone International Inc. is installing the IRMS warehouse management system developed by Integrated Warehousing Solutions LLC. Among the system's main features are compatibility with radio-frequency technology and the ability to capture order information in real time.
