Consolidated Freightways now offers an Internet-based, person-to-person e-commerce capability. The technology, developed by NewChannel Inc., connects visitors to the site (www.cf.com) with a CF representative while online. Through a dialogue box, CF representatives answer questions and assist with sales.USFreightways has combined its four freight-forwarding business units under one new name, USF Worldwide. This change brings together all of the company's domestic and international freight-forwarding operations, including air, surface, ocean, and other value-added services.
APL, the global container transport and logistics provider, has introduced its third trans-Atlantic service. The new service, known as South Atlantic 2 (SA2), links Northern Europe with the U.S. Gulf and South Atlantic regions and features a 12-day nonstop shuttle from Bremerhaven, Germany, to Houston, Texas.
Yellow Freight System has introduced Definite Delivery, a guaranteed service with proactive customer-service features. Available nationally July 5, this service will guarantee customers that their shipments will be delivered on or before the committed service date.
Kansas City Southern Railway Co. and its affiliates Texas Mexican Railway and Grupo TFM have introduced a new service called NAFTA Express, which is designed to provide reliable intermodal service both in Mexico and to the U.S.-Mexico gateway at Laredo, Texas. With NAFTA Express, truckload shippers who previously relied on trucks for service in Mexico can move their time-sensitive intermodal freight from North America via the railroad.
