Rail
By Daryl Delano -- Logistics Management, 9/1/1998
Average railroad linehaul prices were unchanged between June and July, and are just a tenth of a point higher than they were during the first month of this year. Overall, the railroad inflation index was just 1.1% higher in July 1998 than during July 1997. There's evidence that demand for rail services is moderating: The AAR reported mixed results for the month of July, with carload freight movements up slightly but intermodal movements weakening.
