Average prices for waterborne freight rose 1.3 percent in July. Outbound liner prices, by contrast, fell 0.2% over the month. Inbound liner prices have been rising, but Labor Department figures for July were unavailable. Domestic deep-sea prices soared by 3.0 percent but still are below levels of one year ago. The price index for Mississippi River freight rose more than 5.0%, reflecting much higher rates for farm products and chemicals.
