Winners Circle

Companies recently honored for operational excellence:

* International Paper, a worldwide producer of paper, packaging, and forest products, recently honored 12 carriers for providing outstanding transportation service in 1997. The winners include: G&B Supply Company (National Truckload Carrier of the Year); Hannaford Trucking, Presque Isle Trucking, Kiser Inc., and Wayne Smith Trucking (Regional Truckload Carriers of the Year); Yellow Freight System, Holmes Freight Lines, and Con-Way Central Express (Less-Than-Truckload awards); Boyd Brothers Transportation Inc., and Fikes Truck Line (Flatbed Carriers of the Year); Dew Transport Co. (Tank Truck Carrier of the Year); and Mississippi Export Railroad (Inbound Rail Carrier of the Year).

* The General Electric Transportation Association has named Burlington Northern Santa Fe and Walt's DriveAway winners of its 11th annual Carrier of the Year awards for intermodal service.

* Sonoco, a manufacturer of industrial and consumer packaging products, recently honored Swift Transportation as Truckload Focus Carrier of the Year and Truckload Service Carrier of the Year for achieving 99.46-percent on-time delivery.

* The St. Onge Co., an international logistics consulting and engineering company, was awarded Kraft Foods' Rick Stuedemann Award for Supplier Excellence.

* Roadway Express was selected by Inland Paperboard and Packaging as its top long-distance less-than-truckload carrier in 1997. In addition, Inland named Roadway a Quality Carrier.

* CFI, an international truckload carrier, received top honors and was awarded the "Gold" for on-time performance during 1997at the second annual John Deere Co. Carrier Awards Presentation .

* Emery Worldwide was named Forwarder of the Year by The International Air Cargo Association (TIACA). The TIACA awards are presented every two years for outstanding achievement, performance, and innovation in the international aircargo industry.
