Border Lines
A roundup of North American news:
By Staff -- Logistics Management, 9/1/1998
A coalition of U.S. and Canadian private businesses and local governments called North America's Superhighway Coalition (NASCO) is claiming victory with the passage of the Transportation Equity Act for the 21st Century (TEA-21). The intermodal transportation legislation includes $700 million for improving Interstate 35--popularly known as the "NAFTA Highway"--and major connecting interstate highways. NASCO President Keith Leftwich, an Oklahoma state senator, says the funding his group has lobbied for since 1994 will help states modernize transportation infrastructure, build more safety-enforcement facilities, apply Intelligent Transportation Systems technology, and coordinate planning and operations at border crossings with Mexico and Canada.
