Border Lines

A roundup of North American news:

By Staff -- Logistics Management, 9/1/1998

Another new land/water service between the U.S. Gulf and Mexico has begun operations. An alliance between Gulf Bridge Ro/Ro LLC and Landstar Logistics is providing roll-on/roll-off service between Mobile, Ala., and Tuxpan, Mexico. The twice-weekly service is attracting automobiles, forest products, and wheeled intermodal shipments. Landstar's ability to manage door-to-door shipments with computerized tracking, billing, and customs clearance and Gulf Bridge's reliable transportation service offer cost and time advantages for shippers in the United States and Mexico, say company executives. "Customers say this secure and cost-effective service to Mexico is an enticing alternative to the massive congestion at some of the other border crossings," says Landstar Logistics President James Hertwig.
