Air
By Staff -- Logistics Management, 8/1/1999
Shippers enjoyed a much-needed respite in June as average prices for scheduled express air service stood unchanged from May levels and prices for scheduled air freight rose only one-tenth of a percentage point. That breather reflects a recent holding pattern that we are seeing in aircargo transportation rates in general. After watching rates rise 1.5% from year-ago levels in the first quarter of 1999 and jump 3.0% in the second quarter, shippers may now look forward to a meager 1.6% air transportation inflation rate in the third quarter of 1999. By the end of 1999, expect falling rates.
