Wages
By Staff -- Logistics Management, 8/1/1999
With the national unemployment rate down to 4.2% this past May, it's no surprise that wages in the transportation markets have soared. Indeed, the average hourly wage paid by trucking firms hit $14.18 in May 1999, up 2.5% from year-ago levels. But wages have not risen across the board. The average wage paid by U.S. water transport companies fell to $18.77 in May 1999. That's down 3.7% from the $21 peak wage paid in November 1998.
