Rail

By Daryl Delano -- Logistics Management, 10/1/1998

Average railroad linehaul prices were unchanged between July and August, and are up only 1.1% during the past year. And the Association of American Railroads (AAR) reported only slow growth in cumulative rail freight volume through mid August. Nonetheless, AAR statistics show that the number of carloads so far in 1998 has increased 1.9% from the total for the same period last year. Increases recorded in mining, metals, and motor vehicles offset declines in chemicals, grain, and wood products.
