Adapter to Link Windows CE and Bar-Code Printers

By Staff -- Logistics Management, 9/1/1999

Zebra Technologies Corp. has announced that it will develop a plug-in connection kit that would link Windows CE handheld terminals to portable bar-code printers. Socket Communications will work with Zebra to provide connectivity products based on Socket's low-power plug-in adapters.

Zebra and Socket say the connection kit will make it easy to attach a Zebra or Eltron bar-code printer to a Windows CE-based handheld PC, palm-sized PC, or even a Windows NT notebook computer. Bar-code manufacturers have begun producing bar-code terminals using Windows CE, an operating system developed by Microsoft for electronic devices.

Zebra of Vernon Hills, Ill., makes both Zebra and Eltron brand bar-code printers. Socket of Newark, Calif., produces plug-in adapters for Windows CE-based computers.
