Water

By Daryl Delano -- Logistics Management, 11/1/1998

In contrast to the other modes, average prices in the waterborne freight sector continue to move up. Following increases of 3.8% in August and 1.3% in July, average prices rose another 0.4% in September, despite declines in the recently volatile ocean freight sector. A combination of large gains in both Mississippi and ocean liner charges moved the price index for overall water transport during this year's third quarter 3.5% above its second-quarter average.
