Copacino wins major CLM award

Copacino

By Staff -- Logistics Management, 11/1/1998

William C. Copacino, managing partner of Andersen Consulting's Strategic Services Practice for the Americas and a regular columnist for Logistics Management & Distribution Report, received the Council of Logistics Management's Distinguished Service Award during the organization's annual meeting last month in Anaheim, Calif.

In making the award, CLM recognized Copacino as a "prolific and effective spokesperson for logistics to the broader business community. ... Bill has been missionary in his pursuit of redefining the logistics function. He has made himself available to almost any professional group interested in learning more about logistics and his perspectives on logistics strategy. His prolific writings have served as an inspiration to practitioners in the field." CLM also cited Copacino's success in building up Andersen Consulting's logistics consulting practice to one of the largest and most successful such practices in the world.

Copacino has written a regular column for Logistics and its predecessor magazines, Logistics Management and Traffic Management, since 1986. He has been co-author or co-editor of three books and has been a major contributor to three others. In the past 10 years, he has delivered more than 50 speeches on logistics management to business audiences. He donates most of his speaking honoraria and book and article royalties to the Caroline Roero Fund (named for his grandmother), an endowment scholarship fund that supports minority students studying engineering or logistics at Cornell University.

Copacino has been with Andersen Consulting since 1989. Prior to that, he worked for 11 years at Arthur D. Little Inc., where he oversaw its logistics and manufacturing practices. He also has been a manager in manufacturing and logistics at General Electric Co. He earned his M.B.A. from Harvard University's College of Business Administration and his bachelor's degree from Cornell.
