For the record

By Staff -- Logistics Management, 11/1/1998

A news story in the September issue of Logistics Management & Distribution Report insufficiently characterized the results of the 1997 strike by the Teamsters union against United Parcel Service. The story should have noted that although Teamsters negotiators won concessions from UPS on creating additional full-time jobs at UPS, Teamsters employment at UPS is actually down by 10,000 as a result of the strike-related drop in package volume.

In addition, the story improperly juxtaposed speculation on how the new union president may work with employer management in a dispute between UPS and the Teamsters over job creation that is subject to binding arbitration. The new president will not be directly involved in that dispute.
