DDC/MTU Offer New Diesel Engines

Detroit Diesel Corp. has formed a partnership with MTU, the diesel engine operating unit of Mercedes Benz, to create two new engines--the Series 2000 and Series 4000.When designing the two engines, the companies had the following goals in mind: understanding and responding to customer needs, low operating costs, low cost of ownership, establishing long-term relationships with suppliers, generating a high level of quality and productivity, and providing outstanding engine performance.
The Series 2000 and Series 4000 engines are direct injected, turbocharged, and electronically controlled. The 2-liters-per-cylinder Series 2000 and the 4-liters-per-cylinder 4000 models are available in 8-, 12-, and 16-valve configurations.
According to the manufacturers, the engines offer the following advantages: excellent fuel economy, reduced service time, long life to overhaul (20,000 hours in most applications), extended oil-change intervals (50 hours standard), and excellent reliability and durability.
