Two ERP Vendors Combine Forces
By Staff -- Logistics Management, 12/1/1998
In a move that could signal further industry consolidation, two Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) vendors--Platinum Software Corp. of Irvine, Calif., and DataWorks Corp. of San Diego--have announced their merger. ERP software runs the core business systems of a company, handling such tasks as finance and manufacturing. The two software vendors say their merger will create a single ERP offering for mid-sized businesses, companies with up to $500 million in revenues. "Having a business model, including company-direct services and support, that is tuned to the specific needs of the mid-market is clearly a differentiating factor going forward," says DataWorks' CEO and president, Stuart Clifton.
Following the merger, DataWorks will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Platinum. Headquarters for the combined companies will be in Irvine, Calif.
