By Staff -- Logistics Management, 12/1/1998
CIE America has introduced the C. Itoh Model S-4 400, a direct thermal/thermal-transfer printer for bar-code and label production. The printer reproduces labels at a speed of six inches per second (ips) and a resolution of 400 dots per inch (dpi). Its sharp resolution is designed to print bar codes and labels on small items like cables and electronic microchips. The S-4 400 prints on roll stock up to 8 inches in diameter and 4.1 inches wide. Loading of print media and ribbons is quick and easy because of the printer's side-lifting head mechanism.
The printer itself weighs 25 pounds and measures 10.1 inches high, 10.2 inches wide, and 17.1 inches deep. Standard memory in the S-4 400 is 2MB of DRAM. It comes with both Centronics parallel and RS-232 serial ports.
CIE America says its new thermal-transfer printer will be priced below $2,000.
