Transit Group Inc. has acquired three privately held trucking companies: R&M Enterprises, a refrigerated carrier; MDR Cartage Inc., a dry van carrier; and Bestway Trucking Inc., a truckload carrier.
Elwell-Parker Ltd., a privately held manufacturer of special application materials-handling equipment, has acquired McVeigh Material Handling Inc., a forklift and materials-handling equipment dealership in Brunswick, Ohio.
GATX Corp. has acquired Leaman Logistics Inc., a provider of transportation management and integrated logistics solutions to the chemical industry. Concurrently, GATX has formed the GATX Chemical Logistics Group by combining Leaman Logistics and GATX's chemical supply chain management and outsourcing businesses: GATX Liquid Logistics Inc. and GATX Inventory Monitoring Services Inc.
Processors Unlimited, a logistics subsidiary of USFreightways Corp. that specializes in reverse logistics, has consolidated its companies under one name, USF Processors. The provider took this step to better position itself to identify and capture synergies for its growing cross-industry customer base.
Atlas Van Lines has speeded up its cost quotation process by replacing its old system of multiple tariffs with a single tariff application, ATVL 500, that is only 88 pages long. The new ATVL 500 tariff applies to electronics, exhibits, fine arts, and store fixtures.
