Aircargo prices on average declined 0.5% between September and October. Average prices for airfreight transport were 2.3% lower this October than they were last October. After holding steady in September, scheduled freight charges fell 1.4% in October to move 6.5% below their year-ago level. On the other hand, prices continued to move modestly higher in the cargo charter category. The price index for the overall aircargo sector will average about 2.0% less this year than in 1997, to mark the third straight year of decline.
