Although overall capital-equipment prices were unchanged between September and October, transportation equipment purchases showed evidence of accelerating inflation. Truck-trailer prices are up 3.7% over the year, for example, and heavy truck prices are up 2.6% since the same month in 1997. By far the sharpest rise in equipment prices was recorded in light trucks; prices jumped 6.3% between September and October alone.
