Maritime shippers may not be so fortunate.

Maritime shippers may not be so fortunate. Container rates for imports from Asia to U.S. Pacific ports could jump $400 in May, with an additional $300 peak-season surcharge per 40-foot container from July 1 to Oct. 31. That's according to the Transpacific Stabilization Agreement, an organization of carriers involved in shipping from Asia to the United States. The projected rate increases are based on expectations of continued economic strength: The carriers expect cargo to grow by 8 percent next year.
