RosettaNet gains more support
By Staff -- Logistics Management, 11/1/1999
Software vendor Aspect Development Inc. of Mountain View, Calif., has become the latest company to join the RosettaNet, a high-tech industry consortium created to develop supply chain messaging standards across the Internet. Backers of RosettaNet want to define and implement a common set of computer interfaces and content standards for trading partners that want to collaborate on the Web.Founded in 1998 as a non-profit organization, RosettaNet promotes the adoption and deployment of common business interfaces to enable buyers and sellers of computer technology to do business electronically. In particular, the consortium has been trying to take advantage of Extensible Markup Language (XML), an advanced language that allows for the use of special tags to identify the various data fields in messages sent over the Internet.
The more than 40 companies participating in the RosettaNet consortium hope that the adoption of global standards will enable businesses to operate more effective supply chains as well as reduce the cost of business-to-business electronic commerce.
