Air

By Staff -- Logistics Management, 11/1/1999

Airfreight rates rose again in September 1999, up 0.6% from August levels and up 5.2% from September 1998 numbers. Average rates for scheduled express service, meanwhile, held steady from August to September of this year. A new look at the trends in air transportation rates suggests that the cost of aircargo transportation will rise 1.3% in 2000 on the heels of a challenging 2.4% rate hike in 1999. A return of inflationary pressures throughout the U.S. economy--and on the transportation industries, in particular--will help keep the pressure on air transportation rates.
