Companies recently honored for operational excellence:

- Roadway Express Inc. has been awarded the "VICS
Collaborative Commerce Award for Best in Logistics 2001." The award was
presented by Randy Mott of Dell Computer Corp. at the Voluntary Interindustry
Commerce Standards Association Board Dinner in Chicago.
- J.B. Hunt Transport Services Inc. has been chosen
"2000 Outbound Carrier of the Year" by Target Corp.'s Tifton, Ga.,
distribution center. J.B. Hunt Dedicated Contract Services achieved a
99.8-percent on-time delivery rate at the Tifton site, the best on-time
performance recorded by any Target distribution center in 2000.
- Daniel W. Gordon, a logistics and transportation
major at Southwest Missouri State University (SMSU), has been awarded the
Lester W. Overton Transportation Scholarship by the Nashville chapter of Delta
Nu Alpha Transportation (DNA). Gordon is president of the DNA student chapter
at SMSU.
- Less-than-truckload freight carriers Con-Way Central
Express and Con-Way Western Express have been recognized for superior service
levels by Ciba Additives, Ryder System Inc., and Toyota Motor Corp.'s North
American Parts Operations.
- Saia has been presented with the Illinois Tool Works
Ramset/Red Head Choice Partner Award for 2000. Saia was selected for its
on-time service, claims-free handling, invoice accuracy, driver courtesy, and
responsiveness.
- APL Logistics, the supply chain management arm of the
Singapore-based NOL Group, has been recognized as a top performer by two of
its customers. Kellogg USA has named the APL Logistics distribution center in
Walnut, Calif., as the winner of its Top Gun competition, Kellogg's annual
logistics performance program. Colgate-Palmolive also gave APL Logistics top
honors in several categories at the company's annual Logistics Forum.
- Mike Wons, NTE's senior vice president and chief
technology officer, has been named the transportation sector's CTO of the Year
by InfoWorld Media Group, a division of IDG.
- CFI, an international truckload carrier, has won
three awards from various customers. First, a Certainteed plant in Chowchilla,
Calif., honored CFI for its 100-percent on-time record with the company for
the year 2000. Next, Key Tronic named CFI Carrier of the Year. Finally,
Appleton Papers Co. presented CFI with its Harrisburg Distribution Center
Quality Club Award.
- Estes Express Lines was honored as the North Carolina
Traffic League's Regional LTL Carrier of the Year.
- The Home Depot recently honored Cardinal Logistics
Management Inc. as both its Logistics Partner of the Year and its Delivery
Carrier of the Year.
- CSX Lines was named "Jones Act Trade" Carrier of the
Year by Wal-Mart Stores Inc. during its Annual Global Core Carrier Conference.
"Jones Act Trade" covers containerized ocean shipments between the 48
contiguous states and the domestic off-shore locations of Alaska, Hawaii,
Guam, and Puerto Rico.
- After managing more 200,000 bulk deliveries last year
to Papa John's pizza restaurants across the United States, UPS Logistics
Group, a subsidiary of United Parcel Service, has been named Quality Supply
Partner of the Year by Papa John's International Inc. and its supply
subsidiary PJ Food Service.
- Haldex Brake Systems' service centers in the United States and Canada have earned the ISO 9002 certification for manufacturing quality. All 18 service centers independently passed the inspection that examined and approved every aspect of each of the service centers' business practices.
