Intelligent Instrumentation unveils vehicle-mounted terminal
Intelligent Instrumentation has released its first vehicle-mounted data-collection terminal, which runs on the Windows CE operating system. The LANpoint CE Vehicle Mount terminal comes equipped with a 1/2 VGA monochrome screen that's upgradeable to color. It also has a weatherproof case, built-in bar-coding capabilities, and IEEE802.11 RF Ethernet capability.
The availability of a large assortment of tools for the Windows CE operating system means that applications for the terminal can be written in a range of programming languages, including eMbedded Visual C++ and eMbedded Visual Basic. Popular terminal emulation interfaces such as VT, HP, IBM 5250, and IBM 3270 are available for the unit.
The terminal comes with two COM ports. It also has a 5-V power connector for two-dimensional laser scanners and other auto ID devices.

New digital mailing machine designed for ease of use
Neopost Inc. has released its new IJ75 digital mailing machine, which was designed to require only minimal operator training. The digital mailer features a user-friendly control panel, an autofeed transport system, and an automatic thickness adjustment.
The autofeed transport system and automatic thickness adjustment virtually eliminate the need for a trained operator to feed envelopes into the machine accurately and to adjust the machine for different envelope thicknesses. IJ75 can process envelopes up to 5/8 inch thick, and it can even handle bubble envelopes and envelopes with uneven surfaces.
The IJ75 contains digital technology compliant with the U.S. Postal Service's desire to migrate from electronic meters to digital meters. Digital meters provide improved reliability over current electronic meters through software-based operation and a reduction in mechanical parts.
The digital mailing machine also features Hewlett-Packard's inkjet printing technology for quiet operation and clear, consistent printing of postage and photo-quality advertising slogans, even on thick or uneven surfaces. Inkjet technology also offers non-impact printing, which eliminates jams that can occur at the meter with traditional impact meters. Neopost says its ink cartridge (which boasts a life of 35,000 impressions) can last more than five months for an average user processing 7,000 pieces of mail per month.
