Staff -- Logistics Management, 1/1/2002

The School of Industrial and Systems Engineering and The Logistics Institute (TLI) at Georgia Tech have announced the appointment of Dr. C. John Langley Jr. as TLI professor of supply chain management and director of supply chain executive programs. In his new position, Langley will serve as TLI's principal liaison with the logistics and supply chain business communities, teach the executive education programs and lead the development of a new Supply Chain Executive Forum.

FedEx Freight, a FedEx Corp. subsidiary that provides regional less-than-truckload (LTL) next- and second-day services, has added three new positions to its Memphis-based senior management staff. Dennie C. Carey has been named vice president of marketing, Edward C. Alderman is the new director of international development, and Robert H. Rhea has joined the staff as vice president and general counsel.

Gene Bailey and M. Kathleen Broadwater have both been promoted to deputy executive directors of the Maryland Port Administration. Prior to their promotions, Bailey served as the port's director of operations, and Broadwater was director of planning and business development.

The Port of Oakland's Board of Port Commissioners has approved the appointment of Jerry Bridges to the position of maritime director. In his new position, Bridges will oversee all maritime operations, including expansion of the major marine terminals.

Neptune Orient Lines has appointed Hans Hickler chief information officer of NOL Group, the Singapore-based parent company of APL and APL Logistics. Hickler comes to his new position after serving as senior vice president of APL's Information Strategy and Customer Support Group.

Douglas A. Kemp has joined Logistics Gateway Inc. (LogGate) as vice president, marketing and sales. LogGate operates an Internet-based e-logistics network tailored to the needs of small and medium-sized freight forwarders and their carriers.

Yvonne Scott has been named vice president and chief information officer for GATX Rail. Scott, who joined GATX in 1990 as information systems audit manager, will lead the carrier's efforts to create systems that support customer solutions.
