Rugged handheld units offer 'extreme' computing

The PDT 8000, a Microsoft Windows-powered pocket PC-based mobile computing product, offers integrated bar-code scanning and wireless local area network and wide area network capabilities. Equipped with color displays, the PDT 8000 devices run the Pocket PC 2002 operating system and provide anywhere-anytime information, making them suitable for use by mobile workers.

Designed to perform in harsh environments, the PDT 8000 units withstand repeated drops to concrete and extreme variations in temperature, the manufacturer says. The PDT 8000 computers also incorporate several features that increase their real-world utility, including an integrated laser bar-code scanner; the 32-bit Intel PXA250 applications processor, which is based on Intel Xscale technology; Microsoft Pocket PC software for robust application development; advanced video and audio capabilities; and a large color display. Molded heavy-duty pallet covers all bases

New general-use molded plastic pallets are designed to offer a low-cost, heavy-duty alternative to wood pallets. The line includes nestable pallets (which allow users to stack the empties), double-sided pallets (for easy conveyorability), and smooth-top pallets (for 3,000 pound edge rackability).

Individual items in this line range from an inexpensive "one way" shipping pallet that can handle 1,200 pounds of dynamic load to a much heavier-duty pallet able to handle up to 5,000 pounds of dynamic load. Stratis Plastic Pallets (800) 725-5387 www.pallets.com

Drivers' logs defogged

The Logging Solution, a videotape-based training program, is designed for use by drivers and auditors charged with complying with complex hours-of-service regulations. The two-part series consists of two videotapes: A Driver's Guide to the Daily Log , which uses a trip by an over-the-road driver as the basis for explaining the "hows" and "whys" of logging along with the rules themselves, and Auditing Drivers' Logs, which provides auditors with a system for analyzing logs, showing them what to look for and explaining how to match logs against the current regulations. The tapes are available together or separately. J.J. Keller (800) 327-6868 www.jjkeller.com
