DHL Worldwide Express has launched service-parts logistics service in the United States and Canada with the opening of a new Express Logistics Center in San Francisco. The facility will operate as a value-added regional logistics center and a buffer stock location for critical parts.
P&O Cold Logistics will acquire 13 cold-storage facilities totaling 50 million cubic feet in California, Texas and New Jersey from ProLogis. The acquisition makes P&O Cold Logistics the fourth-largest operator of refrigerated warehouses in the country.
The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) now offers "early bird" service for customers of its Parcel Select service. Shippers can deliver packages as early as 5:00 a.m. for delivery the same day or the next day, depending on the destination. USPS also is offering electronic delivery confirmation at no charge for Parcel Select participants.
Saia, a regional less-than-truckload carrier, has reduced transit times to 7,800 cities and towns in 21 states by a full day. Saia executives say the carrier has achieved a 97-percent on-time delivery rate since implementing the faster transit times.
BAX Global has added Shiphazmat software to its MyBAX online account-management solution. Shiphazmat, developed by the Bureau of Dangerous Goods, helps shippers prepare accurate transportation documentation and packaging in compliance with federal and international regulations.
Crowley Logistics has acquired Miami-based transportation specialist Speed Cargo Service. Speed Cargo offers airfreight, ocean and inland services as well as consolidation, warehousing and distribution for customers doing business in Central America and the Caribbean.
