Three-wheel electric truck focuses on safety

Toyota's new 7 Series three-wheel electric lift truck, available in capacities of 3,000 to 4,000 pounds, offers several new power and safety features. A programmable power-select function allows the user to choose between four performance parameters for either prolonged operating time or higher speed. The trucks are configured with three AC motors that control all drive, steering, and hydraulic functions. Active Mast Control (AMC) detects and responds to changes in the truck's operation to prevent tipping when handling loads of various weights and sizes. Another safety feature is a key-lowering interlock system to prevent the forks from being inadvertently lowered after the truck has been turned off. A one-button automatic fork-leveling feature ensures that forks are positioned parallel to the floor for safe load handling, while automatic speed overrides oversee forward-angle tilt and rear tilt speed. Options include mini-lever fingertip controls and an "EZ pedal" for changing direction without taking a hand off the steering wheel or control levers.
