Project and heavy-lift cargo carrier Rickmers-Linie has launched its 'Round-the-World Pearl String Service with nine new, "Superflex" multi-purpose ships. The new service offers eastbound sailings every 14 days, linking Europe, Asia, and North America. Each of the purpose-built vessels is equipped with four heavy-lift deck cranes. Adjustable tween-decks, extra-long hatches, and a dehumidifying system to prevent moisture damage allow the ships to handle virtually any type of loose or containerized cargoes.
Roadway Express has created an engineering services group that can address customers' individual shipping needs through a variety of offerings, such as promotional releases, combinations of time-based and guaranteed shipments, and consolidations.
Lynden Air Freight, a full-service domestic and international freight forwarder, has opened new offices in Milwaukee, Wis., Washington D.C., Greenville, Tenn., and Tampa, Fla. Pitt Ohio Express now offers inbound LTL service to Chicago. Customers have the option of one- and two-day delivery or next-day service. East Coast customers can use the company's Fast Track system to ensure next-day delivery.
Speed Transportation Inc.'s new Speed Distribution subsidiary handles Canadian-based exports to the United States. The company offers a variety of cross-border shipping, warehousing, and order-fulfillment services. According to company executives, Speed Distribution can act as a "U.S. branch office" for Canadian shippers.
