New Services

By Staff -- Logistics Management, 7/1/2005

Con-Way Transportation Services Inc. has launched Con-Way Retail, a "final mile" service offering local cross docking, warehousing, and delivery to customers with multiple selling locations in a single geographic area. The new company will operate as part of the Con-Way NOW expedited transportation unit. Deliveries will be made within predetermined delivery-time windows. Shipments will be scanned at the time of delivery to ensure accuracy; scanned information will be electronically streamed to retail stores' inventory systems. (www.con-way.com)

International freight forwarder BDP International has acquired international transportation company Elite Group Inc. While Elite will continue to operate under its current management as an independent subsidiary, the two companies will share resources such as technology tools and a global network of subsidiaries, joint ventures, and international partnerships in 140 countries. Truckload carrier CRST International's new division, CRST Premier Transport, will serve the short- to medium-haul van market. The company expects the new service will operate more than 200 trucks within the first year. (www.crst.com)

The Pacific Southwest Express (PSX), a new trans-Pacific service from MOL, will deploy four vessels to provide weekly, fixed-day port calls to meet customers' just-in-time needs. The service offers a dedicated train connection at its first U.S. port of call in Oakland, Calif. (www.molpower.com)

A. Duie Pyle's Import/Export Inland Service electronically streamlines inland forwarding. Shippers can track shipments in real time, initiate bills of lading, and orchestrate pickups online. A dedicated international service team will process paperwork and distribute it through the proper channels. (www.pyleco.com)
