International Trade 101

Are you new to export/import operations? Our guide to information resources will help you learn what you need to know.

By Toby B. Gooley, Managing Editor, & Susan Francis, Editorial Intern -- Logistics Management, 7/1/2005

As more companies buy, manufacture, and sell products internationally, the pressure on logistics managers to become experts in international trade operations has intensified. It isn't easy, though, to make the switch from domestic to international operations: Importing and exporting are complex, regulated activities, and the stakes can be high when mistakes are made.

Where can you learn more about import/export operations? The following list includes many useful sources of information. We don't have room to include every possible resource, and we can't endorse any specific organization's offerings. (Keep in mind that some are nonprofit, and others are for-profit businesses.) But this guide to information and training opportunities will get you started on the road to international trade expertise.
