Truck-specific GPS navigator for cell phones
Staff -- Logistics Management, 7/1/2005
Nextel Communications Inc., ALK Technologies, and Motorola Inc. have collaborated to launch PC*Miler|Mobile, the first spoken, truck-specific GPS navigator for mobile phones. The service is powered by Motorola's Viamoto technology and is available on Nextel's GPS- and Java-enabled handsets, which can be mounted in the truck cab for hands-free operation. It combines routing and mapping with state-of-the-art communications and off-the-shelf hardware to provide spoken, truck-specific directions. The service also gives fleets and their customers a real-time view of truck and shipment locations.
