What's behind the growing adoption of TMS? ARC Advisory Group analyst Adrian Gonzalez believes that companies are investing in those packages because they are still under pressure to reduce transportation costs. Chris Caplice of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology says that the tight capacity in the transportation market is also sparking shipper interest in those applications. Texas Instruments has announced plans to begin production on a next generation of RFID tags in the third quarter of this year. The company said that the tags would meet the EPC UHF Generation 2 standards recently set by the standards body, EPCglobal Inc. The RFID industry hopes that the new standard will facilitate widespread use of that technology in the retail supply chain. [More information]
Management Dynamics has acquired BridgePoint, which offers solutions for supply chain visibility, booking, and performance management. Management Dynamics specializes in applications for price and contract management for the international transportation industry. Management Dynamics said the merger would allow them to provide on-demand applications. [More information]
Well-known financial concern JPMorgan Chase will acquire global trade software vendor Vastera. JPMorgan will combine Vastera into its Logistics and Trade Services unit. JPMorgan said it would pay about $129 million for Vastera whose applications automate trade management processes. JP Morgan said the addition of Vastera would help its clients with a "one-stop shop" solution to address the challenges and risks of moving goods across international borders. [More information]
SAMSys has unveiled a new tool that allows users to more easily configure its RFID readers. The tool is a Windows-based software application that provides a user-friendly graphical user interface for programming. The tool eliminates the need for a user to have understanding of a command language to make changes. [More information]
Northrop Grumman has developed the "Illuminos" software development toolkit that allows a user's RFID solution to interact with numerous RFID vendors' readers and printers. The kit is available for automatic identification developers. Northrop Grumman offers integration services to IT and supply chain managers for passive RFID integration. [More information]
Supply chain software and material handling vendor HK Systems will team up with printing solutions maker Printronix on RFID. The two companies will focus on EPC-compliant RFID solutions for consumer packaged goods manufacturers and distributors. Under the terms of the deal, HK Systems will include Printronix's SmartLine RFID printer family as part of its RFID compliance offerings. [More information]
Supply chain software vendor TECSYS Inc. has inked a pact to buy Application Solutions (ASI). Besides providing a warehouse management system, the Canadian-based ASI also offers integration services. ASI has linked its application to such ERP solutions as SAP, SSA, Oracle/PeopleSoft/JDE and MS Business Solutions. [More information]
