The latest forecast on RFID predicts that the market will go from $1.94 billion this year to $7.26 billion by 2008. Despite the push for marking goods in the supply chain, the research firm said that item level tagging, particularly of drugs, will rival the pallet and case tagging this year. Although the firm casts doubt on the creation of one cent tags, it does foresee that “five cent chip tags as a certainty.” [Moreinformation]

TransCore announced that it has integrated its web-based transportation management system with its DAT freight match service. The freight matching service enables shippers to tender loads online to carriers looking for freight. [Moreinformation]
Poor supply chain visibility results from communication failure between computer systems. That’s the finding in a recent study conducted by University of Denver researchers and sponsored by distribution facility provider, ProLogis. Because Enterprise Resource Planning systems, warehouse management systems or planning systems don’t talk with one another, companies experience problems with internal visibility. The researchers conducted extensive interviews with senior executives at 31 companies to reach that conclusion. [Moreinformation]
