Rugged forklift-mounted RFID reader
Staff -- Logistics Management, 10/1/2005
The RX1 forklift-mounted RFID reader combines the RX1 reader with application-specific antennae, synchronized with forklift operations to ensure that the unit reads the right items at the right time. According to the company, initially the RX1 will read and verify case, pallet, and location tags for warehouse moves. In the future, an expanding set of antennae will enable the RX1 to verify that the correct cases in the correct quantities are being placed on the right pallet during case-pick operations.
The RX1 has been designed to work with almost any forklift including those without load rests. The RX1 is the result of a collaboration between LXE, Sirit Technologies and its RFID reader module components, and Intel and its IXP4XX line of network processors. The consortium's objective is to build a rugged truck-mounted RFID reader that can withstand the shocks of forklift use while bringing RFID deeper into the warehouse, beyond shipping and receiving applications.
LXE has patents pending and customers can expect first shipments in January of 2006.
